Tank Logos – What to Consider!!

When you are considering an exterior renovation of your water tower there are a lot of things to consider. First you must decide what the scope of the work is and what type of coating system to apply. Once you have completed this process, you can consider some of the more fun decisions mainly what color to paint the tower and if you want to be creative with a logo!

The most recognizable water towers in the country have creative paint systems or dramatic logos. This is your chance to draw attention to your only 125 foot advertising sign in your water system. Many cities have used this opportunity to brand their community by using their city logo, school mascots, having logo contests, or other fun ways to let people know something about their town before they even drive into the city limits.

There are many things you should consider before putting a logo on your tower including what will the image look like on the tower and are there limitations due to the size and shape of your tank. Believe it or not the typical letter size for a block logo can range anywhere from 3 to 6 feet depending on the size of the water tower; letters smaller than 3 feet are often difficult to read from the ground. You also need to measure the flat area on the tank so that you can see the entire logo. This area can vary greatly depending not only on tank size but also on the style of your tower. Lastly, you need to measure the circumference of the tank so you don’t make the logo too wide and then cannot read the entire logo from left to right.

AuroraOnce you have measured your surface area, you can decide if the logo you chose for your tower will fit the space on the sidewall of your tank. In order to see what your logo looks like with the appurtenances on your tank like the catwalk or the overflow which can block or disrupt the logo, you should do a mockup of your logo on a drawing of your tank. You can do this in house or most tank maintenance providers will be able to provide this in advance for your approval.

With good planning, thought and design of your logo you can really hit a homerun and your water tank will be a source of pride and enjoyment for your entire community.
